Reflections on Confirmation

I was Confirmed at St Mary’s in Walthamstow last month, on Sunday November 10th – Remembrance Sunday. The following is the piece I wrote for the parish magazine. I was baptised as an adult at Pentecost on Sunday, May 11th, 2008. It was the logical next step after having attended the “Just Looking” group run … Continue reading

I was Confirmed this morning at St Mary’s of Walthamstow by the Right Reverend David Hawkins, Bishop of Barking, during the Remembrance Sunday service; five years after being baptised at St Mary’s at Pentecost, 2008. I have stepped through another gate on my journey of faith.

Freda’s 3rd birthday

Today was Freda’s 3rd birthday! There were presents and balloons. There were toy tea parties. There was cake! I think I need to practice my fondant icing modelling skills more. The fairy came out loking decidedly deformed! Not that Freda cared, of course. I think it’s safe to assume that Freda had a very happy, … Continue reading

Eve of Pentecost

The actual anniversary of my baptism was May 11th, but Pentecost is a little later this year; it’s tomorrow – so as of tomorrow, it will be a full Church year since the morning I was baptised. It rather looks as though the weather tomorrow will recapture that day last year; bright, sunny and warm. … Continue reading

Baptism at Pentecost

I could not have asked for a more perfect day upon which to be baptised. Pentecost dawned clear, warm and bright, and we were all up early this morning to greet the day. I couldn’t quite manage to drink my customary second cup of coffee for the nervous butterflies in my tummy which were somersaulting … Continue reading

Books! and catechesis

Back in September last year, I had been eagerly awaiting the publication of Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light but was having real problems tracking down a copy for myself. Eventually I ended up putting it on my wishlist and resigned myself to a long wait. Fast forward to last month, when I (finally!) got … Continue reading

Baptism date!

The date for my baptism has finally been set – Sunday 11th May, which is the second Sunday in May. It will take place during the normal morning service, which starts at 10:30am. Needless to say, I’m very excited to have a date at last, and I’m looking forward to this very much. 🙂

A Trying Week

There were three baptisms last Sunday; a baby, her older brother, and an Egyptian man – the same one mentioned by Simon in this post on the Wednesday Focus blog, in fact, back in January. Simon wrote at the time of how he felt this encounter was a kairos moment for him; and I imagine … Continue reading

It’s been a while since I last updated this blog; a couple of weeks, in fact. Not much has really changed thus far; I’m still attending St.Mary’s each Sunday (unless ill health prevents me – and I’d have to be pretty much bedridden, at that!), and each Wednesday is LifeShapes round at the Bakers’. I … Continue reading

Baptism news

Simon, the vicar, came round this afternoon for a long chat to discuss baptism with me over tea and cake (I forwent the cake myself, as I’ve given up sugar for Lent). We agree it does seem that baptism is the logical next step forward for me, so he’s going to email me later this … Continue reading
